I remember going to a private bank with my father recently for an investment portfolio review.

When the portfolio tanked, the expatriate banker wouldn't return any of our calls but simply sent an email saying that market crashes do not affect long term investment portfolios.

When I did an investment simulation using the tools here, I had realized the exact opposite!

And I remember what my father said to me,"Most of the people who couldn't succeed in their own countries end up here, and suddenly they're paid well and promoted way above their abilities and bragging about how successful they are. I've never met so many incompetent foreigners in such senior positions anywhere in the world, like in Singapore."

And some people are saying the exact same thing about Dubai.

There is obvious human tendency to shun overpriced stocks as seen often, once this emotional buying madness has run out of steam.

I anticipate that a majority of investors will wish they have learnt from History: The Great Depression (TGD).

Similarly like the TGD, in 2007-2009 a massive re-tracement takes place after the markets makes a mondo spiral into the abyss. What happened next during the TGD was a 2nd spiral into the abyss!

This has yet to occur but judging from how the rally has been fueled by buying frenzy (money left over from realestate investors AND now going pooled into stocks) - I'd said it looks rather ingeniously destined... no wait! 'Designed' to HAPPEN ONCE AGAIN.

Dow Jones has surpassed 10,000... I'm going to take my profits in the mean time.

I don't know what others may think of rising oil prices but USD weakness usually sends it up up and unaffordaway!!

Poor Americans hoping for recovery but should fear the worst if suddenly fuel costs are beginning to cut into their discretionary income.

In my opinion... SCREW the current economic data!! Cheesebun!!

My bet is that if oil prices continue to rise and pass a 100 bucks then it's going to majorly dent the recovery of Uncle Sam's sore kahunas. Game over man!

I am curious. I thought they recently preached about the benefits of 'long term investment horizons' when asked about recent losses during the sub-prime crisis?

Why do I get different opinions about Term-life insurance and Whole-life insurance from advisers?

Buy low cost term-life invest the rest?

or

Buy whole-life because one's savings component should not be fused-as-one but remain separate from an investment plan?

Is there a measure to determine which is more suitable for you or me - does it equate to someone's Risk Profile? if so... my Risk Profile was reportedly the same but with different advisers I get different opinions about life insurance.

*groggy* Who is right who is wrong... Yell alamaaaak

Large-cap stock - These are shares issued by large corporates with a market capitalization usually greater than $10 billion.

Mid-cap stock - These are issued by mid-sized corporates with a market cap usually between $2 billion and $10 billion.

Small-cap stocks - These represent smaller-sized corporates with a market cap of less than $2 billion. These types of equities tend to have the highest risk due to lower liquidity.

Knee-caps - Priceless! I have two of these *meep!*  Tongue out

Unsystemic Risk
... is that portion of an asset’s total risk which can be eliminated through diversification.

Reminds me of the eggs in basket story. ME lovess eeeeggss Tongue out

Systemic Risk
... is that risk which cannot be eliminated
Inherent in the marketplace.

Take me for example, *beep* I run on fuel-cell batteries which could at anytime explode thus that is the Systemic Risk inherent in me *beepbeep!*.
